How do I configure a Pearl device before it is added to an account?

The Storetraffic app includes an Advanced option on the sign-in screen that lets you configure a Pearl device — including WiFi setup — without the device being linked to an account first. This is designed for stores or installers who need to set up the hardware on-site and then hand off the MAC address to a Free App admin or T.M.A.S. administrator to complete the account linking.
When to Use This
- A store employee is setting up the Pearl on-site but does not have account credentials.
- You are staging Pearl units before deploying to store locations and want to configure WiFi in advance.
- Your T.M.A.S. or Free App administrator will add the device to the account remotely once they receive the MAC address.
What You Need
- Storetraffic app installed on your phone
- The Pearl sensor pair (Main + Secondary), with battery tabs pulled
- The store's 2.4GHz WiFi network name (SSID) and password
- WiFi and Location permissions enabled on your phone
Steps
- Open the Storetraffic app. On the sign-in screen, tap Advanced.
- Select Pearl as the device type.
- Follow the on-screen setup wizard — it guides you through:
- Package contents confirmation
- Battery tab removal
- Installation height selection (54" for adults only, 24" to include children)
- Mounting orientation (side or front)
- Enabling setup mode (press and hold the hidden button on the Main sensor for 5 seconds until the LED is solid)
- Sensor alignment
- When prompted, enter the store's WiFi network name (SSID) and password, then tap Link to Network.
- Wait while the app configures the Pearl — this takes about a minute.
- Note down the MAC address displayed on the confirmation screen. Tap Finish Setup.

The app returns to the sign-in screen. Setup is complete.
After Setup — Linking to an Account
The Pearl is now configured with the store WiFi but is not yet linked to any account. Provide the MAC address to the account administrator using one of these methods:
- Free App admin: signs in to the Storetraffic app, adds the device to the correct location, and enters the MAC address when prompted.
- T.M.A.S. admin: assigns the device to the location directly in the T.M.A.S. platform using the MAC address.
- No admin access? Email the MAC address to techsupport@storetraffic.com and the support team will link it to the correct account.
Notes
- Pearl only supports 2.4GHz networks. It will not connect to 5GHz-only, WPA3-only, Enterprise, or captive-portal (login page) networks.
- Setup mode on the Main sensor times out after 10 minutes. If the LED goes dark, press and hold the hidden button for 5 seconds again to re-enable it.
- Only configure one Pearl pair at a time to avoid access point conflicts.
- This process configures WiFi only — it does not create a device record in the app or T.M.A.S. The MAC address is required to complete account linking.
- The SSID and password are case-sensitive. Double-check for typos if the connection fails.
